Has anyone else noticed how in many places throughout the web people equate linux with ubuntu as if they were one and the same? There are other distributions as well but no one seems to care! I know that it’s because Ubuntu is currently the most popular distro, but seriously people. Even the people at lifehacker.com do this. One thing that bothers me is in reviews of upcoming versions of ubuntu they list new features that are actually new features of gnome or an application. This wouldn’t be bad if they made that distinction, but they often attribute the changes to ubuntu as if they are the center of development. Isn’t linux about everyone contributing? Seriously people…
On a side note, I really dislike seeing ONLY a *.deb file and no source…at least give me the option of compiling it myself if there’s no binary for my distro! Keep linux open!
